Pitch Design

The artificial turf pitches at Cardigan Mountain & Princeton University.

Overview of the fields

Cardigan Mountain School's artificial turf pitch, installed by Sportsfield Specialties, has been designed according to the recommendations described in the joint European guide for the construction of artificial turf pitches, as outlined in the CEN report (DS/CEN/TR 17519). Similarly, Princeton University has also installed artificial turf pitches with the same criteria, joining the initiative to verify the loss of microplastics and rubber granulate from the turf to a low and acceptable level using straightforward methods.

Both institutions are committed to not only gaining new insights but also sharing the knowledge and experience gained throughout their respective projects with the national and international community. The primary motivation behind these initiatives is to address the need for year-round pitch availability, ensuring that artificial turf fields remain fully functional throughout the winter season when demand is highest. This is particularly important for supporting a large number of players during off-peak seasons when the availability of pitches is significantly reduced.
